Rules and Regulations

  • FLY FISHING ONLY. No conventional tackle and/or bait may be used or processed at any time on the water with the exception of terminal tackle. Violators will be immediately disqualified.

  • Team can consist of up to 3 people, only 2 competing anglers, with one designated oarsman if applicable.

  • All fish must be caught and released, and should be handled and treated accordingly.

  • Only Smallmouth Bass will be counted for the official results.

  • Methods of fishing can consist of boating, float tubes, wading, or a combination of these.

  • ***Watercraft must be propelled by oars, free drift, etc. The use of electric trolling motor will be reserved for persons disabled and unable to self-propel their craft!  Please be honest!!!***

  • For a fish to be “measurable” the fish must be a minimum of 10 inches in length.

  • All eligible fish must be properly measured on the Hawg Trough and have visible Identifier in each photo. (Identifier will be provided if applicable.)

  • ****SEE SEPARATE RULES PAGE PERTAINING TO FISH QUALIFICATIONS AND DISQUALIFICATIONS DURING MEASUREMENTS****

  • **THERE WILL BE A $15 FEE CHARGED FOR BROKEN OR LOST HAWG TROUGHS THAT BELONG TO GRFFC**

  • You may use your own Hawg Trough. We will be issuing an identifier the night before the tournament that must be displayed in all photos. (Lines can only be marked on the ridge itself, any lines darkened to the outsides of the line will be taken back to the previous 1/4" mark.)

  • Your personal Hawg Trough is subject to inspection by tournament staff if so requested. 

  •  It is the participant’s responsibility to go on www.tourneyx.com and register as an angler and register for the event. If you need help, PLEASE ASK!! (We can help you if you inquire prior to the event or the morning of at pre-registration.)

  • Photographs of fish must be uploaded to TourneyX prior to 8PM to be judged.

  • There is a 5 fish limit per person, for a total of 10 fish limit per team. YOU CANNOT USE YOUR PARTNERS FISH TO REACH YOUR INDIVIDUAL LIMIT

  • Anglers are responsible for their own cellular device and cellular data access to upload photos on to TourneyX.

  • If an angler needs assistance uploading their fish on TourneyX you must contact the tournament staff prior to 8:00pm for assistance.

  • Ties are broken based on the largest fish caught, if all fish are the same size, the angler who submitted their largest bass first breaks the tie.

  • First cast is at 7AM, last cast is 7PM

  • Registration must be completed by May 17th, 2024 by 7PM. No registrations will be accepted after this time.

  • There will be no refunds once registered.

  • All photos must be uploaded on TOURNEY X no later then 8PM on May 18th, any fish uploaded after this time will be disqualified, unless a tournament official is helping complete a difficult upload. 

  • Areas eligible, any put in and take out locations between Cass and the confluence of the New River at Hinton.

  • Anglers must have a valid 2024 WV fishing license, and comply with all boating, fishing, and natural resource regulations set forth by the state of West Virginia.

  • Anglers must have in their possession a PFD and must be worn at all times.

***Make up dates will only be used in the event of the water being to high and unsafe for boating activities. This will be monitored prior to the event and emails will be sent out to all registered anglers if a cancellation would have to take place. ***

Note the fish eye is covered which would prevent the determination of the fish is dead or alive.

THIS FISH WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Note the mouth of the fish. If any visible gap is noted in the fish mouth while against the bump board, the fish will receive a 1/2" deduction of total length.
